Varieties of Narcissism…

Self-hatred is not humility; it is, in fact, a cousin of self-love as both are descended from self-obsession. Rather than being exceptionally great one is exceptionally bad. Neither assertion, in most cases, is a true one. This has political as well as personal relevance. Those who exceptionalise the evils of their community are cousins of those who exceptionalise its virtue. Both exaggerate its significance and uniqueness. Humble men, and humble members of tribes, appreciate strengths and weaknesses and recognise the limits of their importance and peculiarity.
