Utopian Cynicism…

Utopians might be characterised as men and women of an essentially optimistic nature. It can be so. Yet in some people the desire for paradise emerges from a great annoyance and even hatred towards the imperfect nature of the present. They might have minimal faith in their dreams being realised but they cannot forgive the world for failing to accord with them, and reject it for its troubles regardless of their scale. This eliminates distinctions between “better” and “worse” and allows occasional lunges for the stars to be followed by extended periods in the mud.
